Outkast keeps things light and catchy on the double single that previews its double album due in October. Big Boi's "The Way You Move" (Arista) has an airy, Earth Wind and Fire-like chorus between his fast-talking come-ons. But for music and wit, André 3000's "Hey Ya" prevails. The track rivals Beck as it mutates from handclapping folk-rock to electro, while the lyrics make their way from the pain of a couple's breakup to a quick rebound: "Don't want to meet your daddy/ just want you in my Caddy." While Big Boi and Andre 3000 are splitting the album, they agree on their first priority: lust.

Posted by usounds at August 26, 2003 03:35 PMBoth songs are great, but "Hey Ya" is newer for me so it obviously is better at the moment. Fortunately, both songs have universal sounds that transcend "the moment" and combine together to churn out two solid hits. The "tick tick followed by that boom", the horn ridden chorus, and the supa-fast supa-fly lyrics of "The Way You Move" and Andre's social commentary on modern relationships (or his own experiences), the crazy 60's dance beat, and the beautiful keyboard that comes in at the perfect moment both exhibit great lyrics and soothing soulful singing that produce yet again Outkast songs you can hear a year from now and enjoy like it's the first time.

Posted by: Clarence on September 5, 2003 04:52 AMAndre 3000 put out one of the best songs and videos that i've seen in a long time on tv.
it's nice to know that music videos can still be good just as long as the right people are doing them.
the quality outkast puts out into this world, sets the tone for the new generation to mix better, rhyme smarter, and just put more effort into the music world. I, and many, have respect for outkast qualite, let alone the addictive beats produced by it.
Posted by: buddha on September 14, 2003 12:52 AMI live in San Diego, and on their Hip-Hop/ R&B radio station, they do not play "Hey Ya". The video was crunk. The whole Beetles thing, by himself...tight concept. Of the two, I like this song because it's something that I didn't expect. I've heard "She Lives In My Lap", that songs tighter than "Hey ya".
...but don't get it wrong, you will catch me singing "I like the way you move" 'round campus cuz the shawties over here packin' much 808 ya heard. Stay up Big Boi!!!
bad ass..........simply put
