The End of OutKast?

Damn! As much, as I don't want to believe this, I would have to say I can understand Andre's thoughts of the his recent decisions he has been making the last few years. Fans of OutKast and hip-hop culture do not want to see him leave, because once he leaves all creativity with hip-hop leaves with him. Read some of the recent interviews (Entertainment Weekly) and be open-minded. Is OutKast really gon' end with "Idlewild" and "Ten The Hard Way"?

.....The two members of Outkast are on the verge of splitting up for good after Andre 3000 told partner Big Boi he won't tour.

The old pals still have one more album to record under their Sony contract - but Andre 3000, real name Andre Benjamin, insists he'll never go on the road to promote it.

Benjamin refused to tour the duo's last album, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, prompting his bandmate to perform alone, and he has no wishes to hit the road again for a planned hits tour.

He says, "It's like wearing a Jheri curl in the fifth grade and then trying to wear a Jheri curl at 65, just to look like you did in the fifth grade.

"I don't wanna keep throwing myself back into that. I don't wanna be on stage rapping at age 40. I probably wanna be at some club, playing saxophone."

Big Boi, real name Antwan Patten, is still optimistic his bandmate will join him for a finale tour, but Benjamin insists it's really unlikely.

He adds, "The business has put a strain on our relationship. We're like brothers, though. We can argue, but we're still gonna be together.

"I want Big Boi to do well inside and outside of Outkast. Because certain things don't last forever."

Outkast Channel Cab Calloway On Long-Awaited 'Idlewild' Single

The late Cab Calloway must be walking around heaven with a little extra swagger and a smile on his face. Outkast have flipped a piece of his "Minnie the Moocher" for their new single, "Mighty O," the first official offering from the "Idlewild"

The late Cab Calloway must be walking around heaven with a little extra swagger and a smile on his face. Outkast have flipped a piece of his "Minnie the Moocher" for their new single, "Mighty O," the first official offering from the "Idlewild"

Calloway famously yelled, "Hi-de-hi-de-hi-di-hi! Ho-de-ho-de-ho-de-ho!" in his classic.

Andre 3000 sings "Mighty-I-de-I-de-I/ O-de-o-de-o-de-o" on the record's hook. Fans of vintage Kast will be pleased to know that that's the only singing he does on the track. As promised, Andre is back to rapping and addressing doubters.

"You ain't a hater? Can't tell," he rhymes. "Either wish me well, go to hell or go to Yale/ Study human behavior/ So you know who the hell you dealing with."

Big Boi is no less belligerent on his verse, which comes second in the song, declaring, "Slam your back to the curb, bruh, like sanitation workers/ 'Cause you're trash.

"That n---a the B.I.G. go hard every time," he continues. "Dungeon Family and biological intact/ Talk bad about the fam, catch diabolical attacks."

The beat sounds as if it were created with live instrumentation. It has the skittish bounce of the ragtime era, which is appropriate as the long-awaited "Idlewild" film is set during that time (see "Outkast's Manager Swears Idlewild Is Almost Done; Group Plans Rosa Parks Tribute"). According to Outkast's reps, Dre and Big Boi will be filming a video for "Mighty O" soon. The soundtrack is due August 22, and the movie is slated to hit theaters August 25.

New OutKast Track "The Mighty O" Hits The Streets

....Greg Street, good looking out for dropping that new Outkast joint this week. So just incase you forgot, Dre and Big still have this ATL game on lock. No need for dances, finger-snapping...none of that.

From the sound of their first single we can look for Andre 3000 to get back to simply spitting again. And Big Boi, he spits a crazy 32 bars or so, they only run one verse each but they are killin' it. Real talk.

They use the old Cab Calloway hook, "Heidi-Heidi Hi/Heidi-Heidi-Ho" (I don't know how to spell it but you feel me) with a little altering of the hook a little bit for the "Idlewood" title. The album drops in September, just in time to gain momentum by early 2007 and grab more Grammy's. Timing is err'thing you know that...

Andre 3000 Interviewed for "The World of Nat King Cole"

....Another project for Cole is the upcoming "The World of Nat King Cole," a retrospective 28-song CD and DVD/documentary companion commemorating the 40th anniversary of Nat King Cole's death in 1965. The documentary can be viewed initially on May 17 on PBS' "American Masters" series.

"There are wonderful interviews with Whoopi Goldberg, Andre Benjamin of OutKast, and just a whole lot of cool people that gave their time to talk about dad and what they felt they learned from him – for those that didn't know him, but were influenced by him, as well as those who knew him," she described.

Now who woulda thunk it? OutKast's Andre 3000 influenced by Nat King Cole? According to Natalie, it's not so far-fetched.....
